Dr. Robert Morrow, MDChief Medical Officer
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Morrow has had a lifelong interest in human behavior and the mind. While serving in the United States Navy medical corps during the Vietnam War, Dr. Morrow became interested in the field of psychiatry. He graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University where he majored in biology and psychology, and then completed his medical school training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He then completed his residency in psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. It was during this time that he became interested in treating people with substance use disorders, and it has remained a major focus in his practice of psychiatry ever since. Dr. Morrow is particularly interested in treating people with dual disorders, i.e. people with substance abuse disorders who also suffer comorbid psychiatric illnesses.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Morrow has served as medical director of four substance abuse treatment facilities including the development and implementation of a dual disorders rehabilitation program at College Hill Medical Center in the 1990s. He also started the first Suboxone treatment program in Monroe County Pennsylvania in 2006. Dr. Morrow also served on the Pennsylvania Medical Society Physician Health Programs Committee from 2001-2007.
Dr. Morrow’s treatment philosophy utilizes a holistic approach in treating both psychiatric and substance use disorders. He believes that psychotherapy or mental health counseling, education and lifestyle management are essential elements in optimizing the use of biological interventions. His approach to mental health counseling is based on mindfulness and cognitive behavioral principles.
In addition to serving as Water Gap Wellness Center’s medical director, Dr. Morrow also maintains an active private practice in Monroe County.
