James’s Mantra: “Do not let the past dictate your future.”
As a Primary Therapist, James Corio brings his academic knowledge as well as his experience as a person in long term recovery from substance use disorder to sessions with patients.
James earned his Bachelor of Arts from New York University and completed his Master of Science from Walden University with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. James has experience working in co-occurring substance use and mental health treatment over the last four years in residential settings.
James utilizes an integrative therapy approach involving person-centered therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to empower his patients to rebuild their identities as well as restructure their thought processes. He also utilizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and therapeutic self-disclosure to alleviate some of the shame and guilt those in early recovery struggle with.
In his free time, James volunteers within his local recovery community. He also enjoys spending time with his family and working on his car. He hopes to demonstrate to those who struggle with addiction and mental health that recovery is not only possible, but beautiful.
