Art in Recovery – Art Therapy

Art Therapy

Art therapy is a relaxing and inspiring activity for many people. Whether observing or creating art, the particular benefits of artistic expression go much further than simple enjoyment. Expressing feelings through artistic outlets can be healing and can offer clients relief from thoughts and emotions swirling around in their heads.

Studies suggest  that expressive art can be very valuable in treating issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and even some phobias. Art therapy is a great way to express your emotions, process complex feelings and find relief.

In many circumstances creating art requires participants to narrate an event and explain how it affected them. This process can help people realize and overcome trauma, and manage negative emotions.

Recently, clients at Water Gap Wellness Center, located in East Stroudsburg, were invited to express their feelings through the painting the of the walls at Water Gap Wellness Center. Some clients rediscovered their old talents and even discovered new ones. The results were masterful!
