Mental Health Treatment Challenges in Recovery

Mental Health Treatment Challenges in Recovery

There are several mental health treatment challenges in recovery that clients will face. These challenges can manifest unexpectedly through triggers, stress, or isolation. It is not uncommon for clients to seek treatment for things like addiction only to realize during their ongoing recovery that they need help for underlying mental health conditions.

Similarly, even clients who have received initial treatment might still need mental health treatment but face challenges because of financial strain, a lack of social support, or relapses.

Facilities like Water Gap Wellness Center can offer depression treatment, treatment for anxiety, and outpatient programs that provide coping skills to handle everyday stress or feelings of anxiety and recovery.

Mental Health Treatment Challenges: Isolation

One of the biggest mental health treatment challenges people face in recovery is isolation. Too often in recovery, people feel isolated, completely alone with no one they can turn to. This can make it difficult to reach out for additional depression treatment or other Mental Health treatment

This type of isolation often stems from individuals who do not receive support from those closest to them for their original decision to get clean. If there isn’t a lot of social support to get sober, clients worry that they won’t receive social support to treat mental health issues either.

Mental Health Treatment Challenges in Recovery: Stress

Exposure to chronic stress can greatly increase your risk of triggers. Chronic stress can come about because of the following:

  • Workplace issues
  • Financial strain
  • Isolation
  • Relationship problems

If left untreated, chronic stress also puts you in a position where you are more susceptible to triggers and more likely to relapse.

Financial Mental Health Treatment Challenges

Tangentially, issues with finances can often lead to anxiety or depression during recovery. For many clients, addiction resulted in financial problems like:

  • Lost income
  • Workplace issues
  • Being fired
  • Not having stable housing
  • Having credit issues
  • Not being able to find new employment

Factors can influence your access to mental health treatment long after you have left your drug and alcohol rehab center.

For example:

Some clients may have run into legal trouble because of their addiction. Recent time in jail could make it challenging to get study employment after drug and alcohol rehab. This could make it difficult to pay bills or qualify for independent housing. All of this can contribute to high levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and triggers.

Why Choose Water Gap Wellness Center

If you are struggling with financial strain, you can reach out to our team and see which health insurance benefits can be applied to your depression treatment. Most people don’t realize that Federal Law requires coverage for mental health services, including medication and therapy.

If you are struggling with isolation, we can work with you and walk you through the outpatient programs we provide, rich in networking opportunities and social support by way of group therapies.

PHP

For example, we offer partial hospitalization programs, which are condensed outpatient treatment plans similar to the quality of support you would receive from a comprehensive inpatient program but with the added benefit of being able to sleep at home. With partial hospitalization programs, you typically come to our treatment center every day of the week for a full-time schedule of treatment, including individual and group therapy sessions and holistic services.

IOP

We also offer intensive outpatient programs. Intensive outpatient programs require a different level of commitment. Instead of coming to our treatment center every day of the week, you might only come a few days per week and only part-time. This lets you work your depression treatment or anxiety treatment in and around other family or professional obligations.

Intensive outpatient programs are viable alternatives to expensive inpatient programs. You can participate in several individualized services and therapies each day you visit, all while receiving social support and reducing stress.

Outpatient

Once you have completed a PHP or IOP, or for less severe cases, you can transition into a traditional outpatient program that provides several hours per week of services with an emphasis on group therapy and support groups.

If you are struggling with chronic stress, our mental health treatment programs can provide holistic care, including coping skills and stress management skills.
