Talk it out with Talk Therapy!
A common rehab therapy used by counselors is CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. But what is CBT and why is it beneficial?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a popular form of therapy – talk therapy – whereby individuals “talk” out their thoughts and feelings with a mental health counselor (psychotherapist, counselor or therapist). It is through the “talking out” that clients can begin to gain clarity and perspective about their thoughts and feelings.
CBT is widely used to help treat depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder, to name a few. During CBT sessions with therapists, clients become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking and can begin to recognize, through the help of their therapist, how to respond to their thoughts and feelings in a more effective way.
During CBT sessions individuals share personal experiences, feelings, struggles, and victories and receive feedback and support from their trained and certified counselor. Individuals develop communication skills and socialization skills during Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and learn how to express their thoughts and feelings and accept caring criticism and re-direction. During CBT clinicians model healthy behaviors and help individuals develop confidence in themselves and in how they respond to their thoughts and feelings.
At Water Gap Wellness, the PHP Program for individuals struggling with Mental Health Disorders or Substance Use Disorder offers clients the opportunity to engage in CBT at least twice weekly with seasoned professional counselors. During sessions clients are offered a safe space to self-identify their core issues and develop valuable coping skills.
In addition to the two CBT sessions weekly, we offer group sessions daily and have a psychiatrist on-site five days per week. Additionally, Water Gap Wellness offers hikes up the Appalachian Trail or on the 130+ acre manicured property.
